The Pain of Fibromyalgia – How to Get Relief

If you have fibromyalgia, you do not need me to tell you about the constant pain in your back, legs, or arms. Your lack of sleep may even be blurring this article. Of course medication is making it all better. No. You are almost on your own to find relief. If you are not too tired, read about some ways to get relief.

Mind over body. No you cannot just wish the pain away. Stress can greatly intensify the symptoms of fibromyalgia. By examining the factors that cause the stress and trying to reduce or eliminate the stress, you can reduce the pain. Perhaps your biggest stress is the anxiety and frustration of the fibromyalgia. Having a plan on how to get relief from fibromyalgia is a start.

Get exercise. Try workouts which improve flexibility and range of motion. Activities like swimming, yoga, or Tai Chi minimize the stress on the joints and muscles. After developing a routine focused on stretching and mobility, add in strength exercises to build muscle.

Eat right. Some foods have shown to irritate or intensify fibromyalgia pain. Try to avoid these foods. Aspartame, an artificial sweetener (Nutrasweet) and Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), a flavor enhancer, both stimulate pain receptors. Sugar and simple carbohydrates will give you a quick rise in blood sugar, but it just as quickly falls. This leads to fatigue. Caffeine can also be a quick stimulant that later leads to fatigue. Other foods to avoid are dairy, especially milk, and Nightshade plants like tomatoes, chili peppers, potatoes, and eggplant.

Eliminating the pain of fibromyalgia is a matter of managing your symptoms. By carefully monitoring your stress, activities, and diet you can zero in on the best lifestyle to zero pain.
